CJRW (Cranford Johnson Robinson Woods) is a full-service advertising, marketing and public relations firm in Little Rock, Arkansas. The agency’s creative and digital teams work together to develop ideas into campaigns that can be successfully implemented across all media platforms, including print, TV and radio as well as social. Some of the company’s largest accounts include the Department of Arkansas Parks and Tourism, the Arkansas State Lottery Commission, Visit Hot Springs and Oaklawn Racing and Gaming.
As an intern, I was assigned to the creative team and responsible for bringing my original ideas to the table. I was involved in brainstorming meetings and creative reviews and given time to work independently and collaboratively with the team.
One of my assignments was for Stamp Out Smoking, an award-winning public outreach campaign for the Arkansas Department of Health. I created a poster for SOS: My Reason to Write, an essay contest for grade school students. I incorporated a speech with rhymes into a shape of a pencil to emphasize the idea that “Graphite Can Kill a Toxic Parasite.” Another assignment was for Bark Bar, a dog-friendly pub in Little Rock. I created social media ads, a poster, rack cards and other collateral pieces for their “Calling all Ruff Runners!” and “Doggie Disco” events. I also assisted with design and editorial changes to the Arkansas Motorcycle Guide, a major publication for the Arkansas Parks and Tourism team.
These are just a few examples of how CJRW gave me hands-on experience of being in a workplace environment, being expected to contribute ideas, being asked to execute changes and client requests in a thoughtful but timely manner. This experience allowed me to see firsthand how an advertising agency works to develop and implement creative campaigns and marketing strategies from start to finish.
